Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported that Turkish artillery shelled targets under control of Kurdish People's Protection Units (YPG) around Azaz in northern Aleppo governorate, Saturday.
The shelling targeted areas around Menagh, which was taken by Kurdish fighters from anti-government forces on Wednesday, including the strategic airbase.
Anti-government forces, including jihadists from the Al-Nusra Front and the so-called Islamic State (IS; formerly ISIS, ISIL) seized the airbase from the Syrian Armed Forces in 2013 after an eight month siege with militants holing the strategic location ever since.
Turkish officials reportedly told Turkish local media that the shelling was in response to YPG hitting Turkish base in Akcabaglar, saying "then we responded within the engagement rules."
