Former French footballer Zinedine Zidane resigned as Real Madrid manager at an impromptu press conference in the Spanish capital on Thursday, just five days after lifting the Champions League trophy in Kiev.
"I like winning. In all things. I do not like losing. If I get the feeling that I am not going to win, you have to make a change," Zidane explained, alongside Madrid President Florentino Perez.
However, the Frenchman opened up the possibility of a return in the future, saying that perhaps this resignation was simply a 'see you later.'
Zidane won his third Champions League in three seasons as Los Blancos coach, having never lost a final as manager in eight attempts. He is also the first manager to leave the post voluntarily under Perez's presidency.
Tottenham's Mauricio Pochettino is the early favourite to take the reigns, while former Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is also linked to the role.
