A team from Russia's Emergency Ministry (EMERCOM) presented, on Tuesday, the 303 Second World War-era explosive devices that they had found over the course of the last month in a 45 hectare area around 72 km (45 miles) from Moscow.
Captain Vitaly Oleinikov, who heads the mine clearance squad tasked with the search operation, explained that the devices discovered were varied and, in some cases, still dangerous. He said, "There are hand-carried antitank and antipersonnel grenades which, in the majority of cases, have detonators but do not have safety catch."
During the Second World War, the region south west of Moscow sustained intense fighting as the German forces attempted to capture the Russian capital.
