A Ladoga lake seal pup named Kroshik was filmed at the Marine Mammal Rehabilitation Centre [Friends of the Baltic Seal Fund] located at the Vodokanal treatment plant in Repino, Saint Petersburg on Friday.
Footage shows the seal pup climbing out of the water and trying to play with one of the scientists at the centre. According to Vyacheslav Alekseev, the Director of the Baltic Seal Fund, "this is a famous character in St. Petersburg, it's a Ladoga ringed seal, and his name is Kroshik. This is such an amazing pet of our centre. He decided to stay with people. We released him to Lake Ladoga twice and both times he returned to us. The second time we released it, he stayed for almost a month in Ladoga, but decided to return to people and we took him back to our centre."
Kroshik first came to the rehabilitation center in 2016. He was found at the village of Sviritsa, Volkhov district. The seal turned out to be the smallest patient the foundation had seen. His weight was only 4 kg (8.8 lbs).
