Two Russian Sukhoi Su-24 bombers swooped over the American USS Donald Cook warship in the Baltic Sea on Tuesday, according to the White House.
According to US officials, who released the footage on Wednesday, the jets flew within 9.1 metres (30 feet) of the destroyer.
"Russian aircraft flew in a simulated attack profile and failed to respond to repeated safety advisories in both English and Russian. USS Donald Cook's commanding officer deemed several of these maneuvers as unsafe and unprofessional," said a US Navy statement released online.
