Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan greeted world leaders as they arrived for the 13rd summit of Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) at the Istanbul Congress Centre, Thursday.
Iranian President Hassan Rouhani, Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, Kazakhstan President Nursultan Nazarbayev, the Emir of Qatar Tamim bin Khalifa Al Thani, and the King of Saudi Arabia Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud were among the leaders of Islamic countries to join the summit. A group photo was held after arrivals.
Established in 1969, the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation is the second biggest inter-governmental organisation in the world, including 57 states. The organisation, aimed at representing Muslim societies, have permanent delegations in both the United Nations and European Union.
The 13rd summit is taking place from April 10-15 in Istanbul. On Thursday and Friday, the participants of summit are expected to discuss the Israel/Palestine conflict, the fight against terrorism, humanitarian issues, and Islamophobia.
