Arianespace successfully carried out a dual launch of two communication satellites, the DirecTV-15 and SKY Mexico-1, using an Ariane 5 ECA (Cryonic Evolution type A) rocket, on flight VA223 from the European Spaceport in Kourou, French Guiana on Wednesday. The DirecTV-15 satellite will provide broadcasts for continental USA, Hawaii, Alaska and Puerto Rico, while the SKY Mexico-1 satellite will provide high definition broadcasts for Mexico, Central America and the Caribbean. The Ariane 5 ECA rocket used in the launch was an improved Ariane 5 generic launcher, the most powerful version of the Ariane 5 range. Flight VA223 was Arianespace's fourth launch for its complete launcher family in 2015 and the 65th successful Ariane 5 flight in a row.
