Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan labelled the European Union as a "dictatorship" during a speech in Ankara, Sunday, over their response to the ongoing migrant crisis. Erdogan also accused the EU of abandoning Turkey in their fight against the so-called Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIL, ISIS).
Commenting on the EU's response to the migrant crisis, Erdogan said "while Turkey was opening its heart and its borders to the victims and oppressed ones, they immediately closed their doors when the issue touched them," adding that "They don't have mercy. They don't have justice. They have dictatorship. They have cruelty."
The Turkish President went on to accuse the EU of leaving Turkey "alone" in fighting IS and well as displaying a double standard in reaction to IS attacks against Turkey and IS attacks against Europe. "The difference between the reactions to the Ankara and Istanbul bombings and the reactions to the activities in Paris and Brussels is nothing else but a concrete injustice," said Erdogan.
