A Danish brewery has collected over 50,000 litres of human urine and used it to make a beer, aptly called the 'Pisner'. The brains behind the concept explained what inspired them to do it, in Copenhagen, Wednesday.
The urine, which was collected from people who went to Roskilde Festival in 2015, is not used as a direct ingredient but is used as fertiliser. The fertiliser was then used on 11 tonnes of malting barley.
"I think that it is great the sometimes when we have a lot of people gathered together, like 100,000 people, it's a great idea to collect it and you use it as a fertiliser. It's not filtered into the beer like a lot of people think it is but it is used as a fertiliser on the field", said Henrik Vang, managing director of the brewery Noerrebro Bryghus.
So far the brewery has produced 50,000 bottles of Pisner.
