Russian President Vladimir Putin met with top military and defence officials in Sochi, Wednesday, to discuss Russia’s defence programmes.
Discussing Russia's military operation in Syria, Putin said: "It is necessary to study this experience and determine the best steps for further improvement of weapon systems and increasing the combat power of the Russian army and navy."
During the briefing, Putin also discussed appraisals of weaponry and military technologies used in the Syria operation. "The newest aviation complexes received a high rating. Among them were the Sukhoi Su-30SM and Su-35 planes, as well as the Mi-28N and Ka-52 helicopters. Precision-guided munitions and cruise missiles confirmed their performance characteristics. And, as I said, precision long-range air and sea-based weaponry was used in Syria for the first time, in the fight against terrorism," the Russian leader noted.
The meeting was attended by a number of high profile figures including Defence Minister Sergei Shoigu, Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Russia Valery Gerasimov and Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Rogozin, who manages Russia’s military defence industry.
