Russian Mil Mi-28NE 'Night Hunters' helicopters successfully targeted several positions and vehicles of the so-called Islamic State (IS; formerly ISIS/ISIL) in undisclosed locations across Syria, as shown by footage that emerged on Thursday.
The aircraft, equipped with 9M120 Ataka missiles, have struck and destroyed many IS targets in the region in recent months. The 'Night Hunters' have been used by Russian Aerospace Forces during the operation in Syria, mostly guarding the area around Hmeymim air base.
Dmitri Rogozin, Russian deputy prime minister in charge of the military industry, posted the footage on a personal social media account, saying that it was sent to him by the pilots themselves, doing what he described as "their routine work".
