An elephant intent on crossing a railway line in Jalpaiguri, West Bengal broke down the barriers and trampled the train tracks on Sunday.
The male elephant, who came from Chapramari Wildlife Sanctuary, made his way underneath the first barrier to cross the railway, before crushing the second barrier underfoot on the opposite side of the track.
The wildlife sanctuary is crossed by the railway line between Siliguri and Malbazar. Elephants have been killed by trains in several incidents.
