Russian President Vladimir Putin congratulated the women of Russia on International Women's Day (IWD) in a national address in Moscow on Wednesday.
"You fill this world with your beauty and vitality, warm tenderness and generosity, creating an atmosphere of comfort, cordiality and harmony" said Putin, adding "we often think 'how it is possible to do this?'"
The president finished his address by saying "women need our men's support. We'll keep that in mind. And not only today. We will do everything to keep our beloveds surrounded with attention and care, to make them smile more often. Once again I heartily congratulate all women on March 8. I wish you health, success, joy and happiness! Congratulations!"
Traditionally Women's Day in Russia is marked on March 8, but congratulations are often offered on March 7, as the day itself is a national holiday.
The holiday honours the struggle and achievements of women for equal rights and representation and has been celebrated in Russia during the past 100 years.
