A search and rescue team of Armed Police Force of Nepal recovered more than 20 million Nepalese Rupees ($198,472, €177,180) in cash from a collapsed branch of the Bank of Kathmandu (BoK) in the industrial area of Balaju, Kathmandu, on Monday. The building collapsed during the magnitude 7.8 earthquake that struck Nepal on April 25. The rescue teams recovered the cash from the collapsed bank after searching their way through the debris of the building. They discovered several cases full of bank notes that, when counted, reached a total of 24.84 million Nepalese Rupees ($246,000, €220,000), 2,879 US Dollars (2,570€) and 71 Thai Baht (2€ - $2.1). The police handed over the amount to the bank's officials after the count was taken. According to Nepalese authorities the April 25 earthquake claimed the lives of at least 5,000 people and injured around 8,000. Approximately eight million people were affected by the catastrophe.
