Scores of people rallied in the Bulgarian resort city of Varna, Monday, to demonstrate against Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan who has arrived in the Black Sea port to attend the EU-Turkey summit.
One protester argued that Erdogan "is an aggressor who violates the European interests. It's very regrettable we are hosting him here." Leader of Revival Party, Kostadin Kostadinov, who attended the rally, said that "severing ties with Russia because of something that is not proven, and on the other hand tolerating Turkey's aggressive military behaviour and territorial pretensions - those are double standards."
On Monday, the European Union holds a summit with Ankara. European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker, European Council President Donald Tusk and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan are in attendance of the summit. The summit is hosted by Bulgarian Prime Minister Boyko Borissov.
A wide range of issues, including Turkey-EU ties, trade and security are reportedly on the agenda of the meeting.
According to the Turkish foreign ministry, during the summit Erdogan is set to seek a deeper customs union, acceleration of financial assistance to Syrian refugees and will discuss Turkey's accession progress to the EU.
