The Ohio Township Fire Department was called to the rescue after reports came in of two horses which fell through the ice in the middle of a frozen lake. The Newburgh Volunteer Fire Department was already on the scene and, unfortunately, one of the horses had already succumbed to the cold, and the other was already suffering from hypothermia. The rescue squad built a rope rescue system to haul the poor horse out
