Russia’s National Anti-Terrorism Committee (NAC) released footage of the aftermath of an operation which reportedly saw five individuals with suspected ties to the self-proclaimed Islamic State (IS; formerly ISIS/ISIL) killed in Nazran, in the Republic of Ingushetia on Thursday.
Reports state that three more alleged militants were detained by security forces in the same operation. A search of the premises revealed ammunition and weapons, while a powerful IED was reportedly found in one room of the building where the group were staying.
On May 24, the NAC, the Interior Ministry and the Federal Security Service detained four members of another purported IS-linked cell in Ekazhevo.
The arrests led to the discovery of seven large weapons caches which contained what was described as an "aerial bomb" ready for use at a cemetery. The bomb was detonated in a controlled explosion.
