Custom orthotics manufacturer Sols Systems displayed their new biomechanic 3D printed footwear, dubbed ADAPTIV at the 3D Print Design Show in New York on Thursday. ADAPTIV utilises a system of gyroscopes and pressure sensors to move air pressure or fluids throughout the shoe to support the body's movements, allowing peak performance, stability and posture with each step. Sols Systems plans on custom producing the shoes using a 3D scan of the customer's foot. From the scan, the team can create a 3D printed inner boot with custom insoles equipped with adjustable air pockets and an ankle area featuring silicone airbags. The outer boot made of leather contains movement sensors. The souped-up shoes, which are all prototypes available for order, have a range of investors including NBA New York Nicks Athlete Carmelo Anthony. The 3D Print Design Show, held in New York's Javits Center, will run from April 16 to 19.
