More than 500 people took part in Moscow's second winter bicycle parade despite the anomalously low temperatures that struck the Russian capital, Sunday.
The parade started at the Frunzenskaya Embankment and then proceeded towards the Prechistenskaya, Kremlin and Moskvoretskaya Embankments before returning to the finish line. Some of the participants wore balaclavas to protect themselves from the severe frost. Cyclists of all ages and of any physical training were invited to participate in the parade.
Over the course of last year, four bicycle parades were held in Moscow. The first winter bicycle parade amassed more than 3,000 people.
During the parade, the temperatures in Moscow reached -28°C (-18,4°F) while the temperatures in Moscow Region dropped well below -35°C (-31°F).
Heavy snowfall and sub-freezing temperatures swept across Russia, with the temperatures in Kostroma Region dropping below -40°C (-40°F).
