United Launch Alliance (ULA) successfully launched the GPS IIF-12 navigation satellite atop an Atlas 5 rocket from the Cape Canaveral Air Force Station in Florida, Friday.
The GPS IIF-12 is the last in a series of satellites aimed at updating US’ Global Positioning System (GPS).
ULA is a partnership between Lockheed Martin Space Systems and Boeing Defence, Space and Security. Friday's launch marks the company's hundredth mission. ULA traditionally supply services to the US government under the Air Force's Evolved Expendable Launch Vehicle (EELV) programme, but have recently sought to expand their launch services for commercial purposes.
The company has four commercial launches scheduled for 2016.
