Russia is not building up its offensive military capabilities overseas and is only responding to security threats caused by US and NATO military expansion on its borders, Russian President Vladimir Putin told Italian newspaper Il Corriere della Sera on Saturday. "Only an insane person" would "suddenly attack NATO," he said, adding that “some countries are simply taking advantage of people’s fears with regard to Russia." The Russian leader went on to say there are no logical grounds to fear Russia and people with a degree of "common sense” cannot imagine so large a military conflict breaking out in the 21st century.
