The Aurus presidential limousine was presented to the public for the first time at the Moscow Automobile Salon on Wednesday.
Also known as the Cortege [Kortezh] project, the vehicle was developed for the Russian president by the NAMI (the Central Scientific Research Automobile and Automotive Engines Institute) and boasts a 6.6-litre V12 engine which develops 830hp and 1320Nm of torque. The beast is also armoured, protecting it against bullets and bomb blasts.
“Open sales will start next year so it is just on pre-order at the moment. We physically will not be able to fulfill every order next year because our production facilities next year will only be able to manufacture 150 vehicles. By 2020, we’ll increase capacity at the NAMI production facility to 250,” Russian Minister of Trade and Industry Denis Manturov said.
The vehicle has already replaced the Mercedes-Benz S 600 Guard Pullman which was previously used by Putin.
According to the Ministry of Trade and Industry, the cars are expected to be offered for sale in 2019 at prices starting from 6-7 million roubles (€80,000 – €93,000, $95,000 - $111,000).
