Around 1,000 members of pro-Turkish organisations to the streets of Berlin, Saturday, to protest against Bundestag's vote on a resolution regarding the recognition of the Armenian genocide.
The protesters marched from Potsdamer Platz to Brandenburg Gate carrying banners like "Bundestag is not responsible, Parliaments are no courts."
On their way, around a dozen Kurdish counter-protesters demonstrated against the march but police prevented any incident.
"We reject politicians judging about our coexistence and Turkish history. Turkish history cannot be written by politicians. Turkish history has to be placed in Turkish school books correctly. We demand from all the deputies of the parliament to be fair and that they cannot judge upon historical events," Yuksel Arslan, member of a Turkish association, said during a speech in front of Brandenburg Gate.
The German Bundestag will vote on June 2 on a resolution about recognising the Armenian massacre as genocide.
The genocide took place in the Ottoman Empire during and after World War I, between 1915 and 1923. Commemorations have taken place on April 24 since the 1920s, marking the date in 1915 when hundreds of Armenian intellectuals were arrested in the Ottoman capital of Constantinople, before being executed.
In the years that followed ethnic Armenians were displaced, deported or placed in concentration camps by Ottoman authorities. Between 600,000 and 1.8 million people are believed to have died during the period.
