Around 2,000 migrants and refugees boarded trains bound for the Macedonian-Serbian border, in Gevgelija on Sunday morning. Families who were travelling with children were prioritised leaving just a few hundred migrants and refugees behind in the border town. Alongside the trains, which depart once every hour, buses from all over the country are currently running back and forth from Gevgelija, one of the first places people reach after crossing the border into Macedonia from Greece. The previous day police officers fired stun-grenades and used tear-gas against migrants and refugees, as many attempted to storm the Idomeni border-crossing between Macedonia and Greece, with some even throwing their children across the fence. The Macedonian government has declared a state of emergency in two border regions to tackle the crisis and has also mobilised its army. Some 3,000 people have been trapped in a buffer-zone between the two nations for the last few days.
