British Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson and High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mogherini were among European Union (EU) Ministers that gathered for an Informal Meeting of EU Ministers of Foreign Affairs in Bratislava, Friday.
British Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson spoke to the press about the planned topics for the meeting, stating that "the events in Ukraine are still very worrying, and it's important, I think, that we continue to keep pressure up on Russia," adding that "there can be no relaxation of that pressure until such time that we see the Minsk agreements being advanced."
The British Foreign Secretary also addressed the recent attempted coup in Turkey, saying "it's important to stress that any reaction to that attempted coup has got to be in conformity with democratic principles, and should be proportionate and everybody also agrees on that."
High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mogherini told the press that the EU Foreign Ministers were preparing to meet with the Foreign Minister of Turkey on Saturday, stating that it will be "the chance of conveying [to] him the united European messages, on how we see future engagement with the country."
The Informal Meeting of EU Foreign Ministers takes place on September 2 - 3, in Bratislava, Slovakia, and is hosted by Miroslav Lajcak, Minister for Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic.
