Veterans of World War II commemorated the 70th anniversary of the Allied Forces victory in the Atlantic and the end of the war in Europe at the Brooklyn War Memorial in New York, Friday. Many of the city's Russian expatriates attended the ceremony, in which they listened to an orchestra and watched as veterans lay flowers on the memorial. A handful of anti-Russian protesters attempted to disrupt the ceremony. Carrying the Ukrainian flag, the protesters held signs reading "Putin lies," with others arguing with police who attempted to move the protest on due to a lack of permit.
