Syrian government forces with the support of the National Defence Forces regained territory in northeastern Homs Governorate after countering an offensive by the self-proclaimed Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS/ISIL), Sunday.
After counter-attacking with tanks and artillery for several hours, Syrian soldiers managed to push back the assault by IS.
Soldiers said they were in highs spirits and ready to repel any armed attacks on the field of battle. IS made ground earlier in the week with a newly launched offensive on a Syrian Army base in the vicinity of Palmyra, but Syrian government forces managed to repel the attacks.
