Residents of Monte Grande, close to Buenos Aires, may have felt a chill running down their spine when they encountered Daniel Bira driving his Ford Courier model '59 converted from a former funeral hearse, Saturday.
When Bira was 17 years old, he used to walk along a car salvage yard and imagine himself driving a "crazy" car. Years later he fulfilled his fantasy: he found an ad from a funeral home selling a Ford Courier model '59 hearse online and bought it to restore it to his taste.
When Bira drives his car through the streets of Monte Grande, the vehicle receives a lot of attention: while some residents attentively look at the drive with concern in their eyes, others take pictures of it and congratulate Bira for its looks.
The restoration process lasted three years and included the placement of a cross on the vehicle's roof, along with a sign reading in Spanish "I hope to see you soon." After Bira brought the car home, his wife refused to speak with him for a full week.
