Last Wednesday preservation experts opened Tomb of Jesus Christ inside the Church of the Holy Sepulchre in East Jerusalem for the first time in 1810, as shown by footage released on Sunday. The marble slab stone which covered the tomb was pulled open for the first time since 1810 when the last restoration work occurred.
In the centre of the church the Aedicule surrounding the Tomb of Jesus, built in the 19th century, is also been in the process of being restored. The work is being paid for between the Eastern Orthodox, Roman Catholic, and Armenian churches, as well as from public and private funds. Christians believe the site to contain the rock on top of which Jesus was laid in 33 AD before his resurrection, was opened as a result of renovation work.
