The tunnel at Maelbeek metro station, Brussels, was filled with smoke on Tuesday, in the aftermath of an explosion in the station, which killed several people around 09:15 (08:15 GMT) that morning.
The metro station is less than a kilometre away from European Union buildings in the centre of the Belgian capital.
The blast came only an hour after two explosions ripped through Zaventem airport in Brussels.
The airport is currently on lockdown, with rail transport stopped and incoming flights diverted to Antwerp and other locations. Belgium has raised its terror threat to its highest level.
