McLaren Special Operations unveiled a new version of the 650 Spider, called the 'Al Sahara 79' at the Dubai International Motor Show, Tuesday. The special edition car features real 24 carat gold in its pearlescent paintwork. The car's name references gold's atomic number, '79', and is said to be inspired by the golden landscape of the Middle East. According to Ian Gorsuch, the Regional Director of Middle East and Africa for McLaren, the car has "a unique suspension system, not found in any other car in the world and the engine is the unique McLaren M83AT engine." The car is decorated with a dark golden finish on the switchgear and heating vents. The paint scheme is continued on the inside through the steering wheel, console and door panels. The supercar can reach 100km (62miles) in three seconds and has a top speed of 204mph (328km) and is priced at 1,456,308 AED (€370 000).
