World’s first Ferrari that is powered entirely by electricity was put to the test on Monday in Encinitas, 100 miles (160 km) south of Los Angeles.
The company responsible for the conversion, Electric GT, has substituted the original engine with 48 lithium ion batteries and a three-motor unit from a standard gas-powered Ferrari.
Electric GT Managing Director Eric Hutchison stressed that the car, although running on electricity, still has all the power of its more polluting counterparts. He said, "The car is incredibly quick because it has got twice the torque of a Ferrari. We go off the line and we go zero to 60 [miles per hour] in about 30% faster than the original time than that this gas car had.”
