10.09.2016
Chairman of the civil wing of Azov battalion, Sergei Filimonov, was greeted by around 200 Ukrainian nationalists on Saturday in Kiev after he was released on bail, having been arrested for suspected hooliganism on Friday.
The battalion leader addressed the hundreds of supporters, who waved smoke bombs and flares as they celebrated his release.
Filimonov was arrested on September 9 during clashes at a protest which saw dozens of Ukrainian nationalists demonstrate in front of the Public Prosecutor's Office in Kiev to demand the release of Andrei Medvedko and Denis Polishchuk, who are accused of murdering journalist Oles Buzina.
Oles Buzina was shot dead on April 16, 2015 in front of his flat in Kiev. Ukrainian authorities arrested several suspects in June 2015. The journalist was known for his pro-Russian views and had received numerous death threats from Ukrainian nationalists prior to his murder.
