19.01.2016
Refugees and migrants at a refugee camp in Calais burned many of their belongings, Tuesday morning, after French authorities began efforts to destroy the camp and relocate its inhabitants to new housing the day before.
Bulldozers and diggers began carving a path towards the camp on Monday, before the machinery dismantled makeshift shelters at the site. Approximately 3,500 inhabitants had left the camp several days before the demolition.
However more than 1,500 refugees and migrants have refused to leave the original campsite, on the basis that they were not consulted on the issue beforehand.
