Several brand-new Russian Armata T-14 main battle tanks took part in a preview of next month’s Victory Day celebrations, during a rehearsal parade in Alabino on Wednesday. The state of the art vehicles will roll through Moscow's Red Square on May 9. Little is known about the battle tanks, with officials choosing to cover the turrets and guns to retain secrecy around their design. It has been rumoured that the tanks will include a remote-controlled 125mm (4.90 in) smoothbore cannon, a 30mm (1.18 in) sub-caliber ranging gun, and a 12.5mm (0.49 in) heavy machine gun with a turret, designed to take out anti-tank missiles. The price of a new Armata has been estimated at 400 million rubles (approx. $7.4 million; €7 million), with an expected 2,300 units to be used by the Russian Army. Moscow’s May 9 Victory Day parade will include Russia’s latest military hardware, including 10 T-14s, 10 T-15 (Object 149) heavy APCs, eight Coalition-SV 152mm (6 in) self-propelled howitzers, groups of Kurganets-25 light tracked armoured vehicles and Boomerang light-wheeled armoured vehicles, among other military equipment.
