An American P-40 fighter aircraft from World War II was lifted from the bottom of the Kerch Strait, 6 kilometres (3.7 miles) from the Taman coast, drone footage shot on Friday showed. The craft was discovered by team working on the Kerch Strait Bridge.
The aircraft, which weighs more than 3,500 kilograms (7,716 pounds) and is believed to have been shot down during the 1943 Kerch-Eltigen operation, was raised using special equipment by the builders and engineers of the bridge.
The discovery was reported to be in good condition and is now set to be exhibited in an undisclosed location on the Kerch Peninsula, in time for the 72nd Victory Day.
