Six ringed seals – four females and two males - were released into the wild near the Valaam Archipelago in the region of Leningrad, Tuesday. The seals each weighed around 20 kilogrammes (44 lbs) when they were rescued but grew stronger with time. Throughout the rehabilitation process they reportedly grew more and more afraid of people, resulting in the decision to set them free and release them back into the wild. The rehabilitation of the young marine mammals, which were separated from their parents, took place at the 'Center for the Study and Conservation of Marine Mammals.' Since 2013, 34 animals have been rescued in total.
