The British inventor, Royal Marines reservist, and 'real-life Ironman' Richard Browning joined the Royal Marines in the Solent to demonstrate his jet-powered body suit, in footage released by the UK's Ministry of Defence on Tuesday.
Browning sailed into the Solent with the patrol boat HMS Dasher and a small rigid-inflatable boat. A landing pad was set up on both boats so that Browning could perform a series of airborne manoeuvres to demonstrate how his jet suit invention could be used by the Royal Marines.
The trials proved that the suit works over a large body of water and that the pilot can land and take-off with relative ease from boats or ships moving at speed.
Browning, founder of Gravity Industries, has been dubbed the 'real-life Ironman' for his invention of the the Daedalus Mark 1, a jet-suit that uses several small jet engines to achieve flight.
The Solent is the body of water that separates the Isle of Wight from England's mainland.
