Around 250 pizza chefs were involved in setting a new Guinness World Record after they cooked the longest pizza in the world in the place known as the birthplace of the food, Naples, Wednesday.
The 1,860-metre-long Margherita pizza required 2,000kg (4,409lb) of flour, 1600kg (3,527lb) of tomatoes, 2,000kg (4,409lb) of mozzarella, 30kg (66lb) of basil, 200 litres of oil and 1,500 litres of water. It took around 11 hours to be cooked and the food was donated to the needy, according to reports.
The ambitious project was organized by Naples' Pizza Village, alongside local companies including Caputo, a flour producer, and was sponsored by the patronage of the city of Naples.
The previous record stood at 1,595.45m (5,234ft) and was achieved at Milan’s Expo 2015 world fair on 20 June, 2015.
