Germany: Merkel awarded 'Golden Victoria' for political leadership

German Chancellor Angela Merkel received the 'Golden Victoria' award for political leadership from the Association of German Magazine Publishers (VDZ) on Monday night in Berlin.
The ceremony was led by Queen Rania Al Abdullah of Jordan, who commended the Chancellor's response to the refugee crisis of 2015.
Merkel used her acceptance speech to stress the importance of press freedom, without fear of threats and violence.
Merkel was chosen not only for her political work in Germany, but for her work for the whole of Europe. Further laureates include the murdered journalists Daphne Caruana Galizia and Jan Kuciak as well as Chief Executive of Nestle Germany Beatrice Guillaume-Grabisch.
