After an eight-hour-long operation rescuers freed three orcas, including one pup, which had got trapped in ice in the Sea of Okhotsk, Sakhalin, on Tuesday.
Rescuers using hooks broke and dragged the largest pieces of ice away from the animals, others got into the water with the orcas in an attempt to coax them to freedom. The operation near Starodubskoye village is still underway to save the fourth and largest whale as the mammal remains still locked in by the ice floes.
