Germany: Merkel announces she wil stand for re-election

German Chancellor Angela Merkel announced her intention to run for a fourth term as German Chancellor in Germany's 2017 presidential elections, at the CDU Headquarters in Berlin, on Sunday, following a meeting with senior CDU officials.
Merkel stated, "To stand for the CDU presidency, in my understanding is always be willing to be the Chancellor, and this is why today, once again, I am ready to stand again as candidate for the Federal Chancellor of the Federal Republic of German in the 2017 Bundestag elections."
She added, "I've been thinking a lot about it, and the decision for a fourth candidacy after eleven years is anything but trivial neither for the country, for the party, and especially for me."
The date of the elections is yet to be announced but is expected between August 23 and October 22 2017.
