Bangkok has deployed 10,000 officers as a measure to tighten security for the 34th Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Summit in Bangkok, as shown in footage from Friday.
According to reports, officers will be posted in different parts of the city to ensure the safety and convenience of the representatives from the 10 ASEAN nations.
The measure was taken regarding an incident 10 years ago, when a summit of Asian leaders had to be cancelled after anti-government protesters stormed into the venue in Pattaya, Thailand.
The 34th ASEAN Summit will take place on 22-23 June in the Thai capital. Some topics ASEAN leaders are expected to discuss include the Indo-Pacific Strategy, the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP), and the situation of Myanmar's Rakhine state.
