Finland: Refugees taking arctic route to EU abandon Lada cars on Russian border

Dozens of snow-capped Lada cars lay abandoned along the Russia-Finland border near Salla, Thursday, as refugees continue to use the Russian-made vehicles to make their way into Europe.
Migrants and refugees are prohibited from crossing the border by foot, and patrol services officially banned people from crossing by bicycle in December, leaving entrance to the country by car as the only option.
The barely roadworthy cars are now being seized by the Finnish government in a bid to prevent illegal immigration. Meanwhile, local media report that amateur car enthusiasts are hoping that the iconic cars will be sold-off.
It's estimated that around 180 refugees and migrants have crossed the arctic border in 2016 so far.
