A 65-year-old resident of Havana has discovered an unusual way to help ferment home-made tropical fruit wines.
Every day Orestes Estevez along with his wife and son fill bottles containing 20 litres of wine and with a secret mixture that he doesn’t share with anyone. Condoms are then placed over the glass jugs, which are filled with a range of ingredients, including grapes, bananas, ginger and watercress.
The condoms inflate, indicating that the fruity mixture is fermenting and producing gases.
The winemakers know the produce is ready for bottling once the condom collapses.
