Thousands of fast food workers braved heavy rains to protest outside the headquarters of McDonald's in Oak Brook, Illinois, on Wednesday. Workers are demanding a $15-an-hour (€13.40) minimum wage, an improved benefits system and the right to form a union for employees of fast food restaurants.
The protest took place a day before the company's annual shareholders meeting. Fearing that the protests may turn violent McDonald's closed their headquarters for the day.
The 'Fight for $15' campaign kicked off in 2012, but grew rapidly after the Service Employees International Union announced its support for the movement.
