Two police officers are reported to have been killed and several more wounded after a car bomb was detonated outside a police station in Turkey’s south-eastern town of Midyat in Mardin province, Wednesday.
According to local media reports, clashes between members of the Turkish security forces and Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) militants broke out after the explosion occurred.
The explosion comes a day after 11 people were killed in a bomb blast at a bus stop in Istanbul. No group has yet claimed responsibility for Tuesday’s attack.
Turkish security forces launched a large-scale security operation against the PKK on December 14, involving the imposition of curfews, aerial bombing, and mass detentions in areas of unrest.
