Residents of Katwa Town and Mangalkote in Burdwan ran away from their villages in fear of a wild tusker elephant which hurled two children into the air, Sunday. The elephant destroyed at least one house before it ran away and escaped from the area. The first of the children, 12-year-old Snehashis Paramanik, was reportedly running behind the animal when it suddenly stopped and hurled him into the air. The teenager became senseless as he fell onto the ground. The same elephant later grabbed a three-year-old boy and also tossed him into the air. No serious injuries were reported. In another incident over the weekend, a 70-year-old resident of Gangoni was killed by an elephant after coming out of his house. The man is believed to have been pronounced dead as he arrived at a local hospital after he was slammed into the ground by the elephant.
