Greece: Tsipras resigns and calls for snap elections

The Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras addressed at the Greek announcing his resignation and calling for early elections, in Athens, Thursday. Tsipras stated that the "popular mandate" he received in January "has expired," adding that "it is about time for the sovereign people to get the power." The move follows the Greek parliament voting in favour of a third bailout by Greece’s creditors – the European Commission (EC), the European Central Bank (ECB) and the International Monetary Fund (IMF). In securing votes for the bailout, 43 Syriza MPs out of 149 rebelled against the party-line of Tsipras.
