Over 20,000 fireworks were launched off Sydney Harbour Bridge in a spectacular display to bring in the New Year at midnight, local time, on Saturday (13:00 GMT, Friday).
The display is Sydney's largest to date, consisting of 120 tonnes of pyrotechnics, featuring 2,400 more fireworks than the previous year. Part of the show is dedicated to music legends, including David Bowie and George Michael, who passed away in 2016.
Over one and a half million people were expected to watch the show from sites along the harbour. New South Wales Police Force has deployed an extra 2,000 officers on land, sea and air for the event.
